Cut a song into a ringtone without uploading it

By Team Hypomnema · Updated October 18, 2026

Choose a precise audio selection, preview fades and volume, and understand MP3 quality, WAV size and phone ringtone compatibility.

Choose the best moment

Open audio up to 20 MB and five minutes. Drag the IN and OUT handles, move the selected region, or type start and end seconds. Fifteen-, thirty- and sixty-second presets help create short clips. Zoom and scroll for finer control. Keyboard arrow keys move a focused handle; hold Shift for larger steps. The waveform is a visual sample of amplitude, not a spectrogram or loudness measurement.

Preview before exporting

Preview the selection and enable looping to check the cut. Volume, mono mixing, peak normalization and fades apply to preview and export. Short fades reduce clicks at boundaries. Peak protection reduces excessive gain instead of allowing clipping, but it cannot repair clipping already present in a source. Normalization changes peak amplitude, not perceived loudness to a broadcast standard. Stereo-to-mono mixing can cancel out-of-phase content.

Choose quality and file size

MP3 exports use 96–320 kbps. Processing uses 44.1 kHz; the encoder may choose a lower output sample rate at lower bitrates. Higher bitrate preserves more of the processed signal during the new encoding but cannot recover detail already lost in the source. WAV exports are uncompressed 16-bit PCM and are larger. MP3 uses frames and encoder padding, so a decoded export can be slightly longer than the selected time. Silence and fades remain intentional parts of your selection. All edits require re-encoding; this is not a lossless MP3 frame cutter.

Phone compatibility and privacy

Many Android phones can use a downloaded MP3 as a ringtone through sound settings. An iPhone needs an additional GarageBand or computer import workflow; this tool does not export M4R or install ringtones. Browser support for M4A, AAC, OGG, FLAC and WebM varies. Files must have readable duration metadata and mono or stereo audio. Audio stays in browser memory; no microphone access, server upload or permanent storage is used. Native browser decoding needs memory and cannot always be interrupted immediately. Shorter inputs are best on phones, and corrupt or unsupported files are rejected. Only edit audio you have permission to use.
