A LITTLE HELP FOR YOUR NEXT TASK

Image Compressor

Balance quality and file size, with a real before-and-after comparison.

Your files never leave your device

How to use Image Compressor

Reduce image file sizes with configurable JPEG or WebP quality and optional maximum width. A maximum target size uses quality adjustment and then automatic downscaling when needed.

  1. Choose one or more JPG, PNG, or WebP images.
  2. Choose JPEG or WebP, set quality, and optionally enter a maximum width and target KB. PNG transparency needs WebP or a chosen JPEG background.
  3. Compress and compare original/output sizes. If no saving is possible, the original is offered with a clear explanation.

A practical example

For a large photograph, try WebP at 80% quality and a maximum width of 1600 pixels. Inspect fine text and faces before sharing.

Before you share the result

  • Lossy compression can remove visual detail. Keep the original if quality matters.
  • Small targets can reduce dimensions substantially; inspect readability. The result reports whether the maximum was met.
  • An unchanged original keeps its original file extension. No size reduction is claimed when the candidate is larger.

Useful things to know

Are my files private?

File processing happens locally in your browser. Images, PDFs, and output archives are not uploaded to our servers. Save your results before leaving: the workspace is cleared on refresh or navigation.

What formats and sizes are supported?

Up to 30 images, 30 MB per file, 80 MB combined, and 40 megapixels per input image. Dedicated format converters accept only their named source format. Exported images are limited to 16 megapixels. Total output is limited to 100 MB. Smaller batches work better on phones.

What should I expect from this tool?

PNG is not a lossy output option. Already optimized images may not shrink; quality percentages vary by browser encoder.

Will the exported image look exactly like the original?

PNG retains the decoded pixels without extra lossy compression; JPEG and WebP use the chosen quality. Metadata and colour profiles are not copied. Colour rendering can vary by browser. Animated images become a browser-decoded still frame. Keep your originals and inspect the downloaded output.

Is Image Compressor free, and how is my privacy handled?

Yes. Image Compressor is free to use without registration. Tool inputs are processed in your browser rather than uploaded to our servers. Optional usage analytics follows your cookie preferences; it does not receive your files or tool inputs. Keep your browser updated and review results before sharing.
